DESCRIPTION OF THE CLEANING MATERIAL

Sorting is achieved by sieving, ventilation and densimetry. A set of grids with holes on an inclinated plate are fixed on a support liven up by a movement of rotation. The choose of the diameter of the holes allow to eliminate the biggest (superior grid) and the finest particules (inferior grid).
There are two independent lines of sorting which feed tow driers. The installation allow to treat simultaneously two sort of products without mixing them together. Each line comprises a sorting before and after the drier for a capacity of 20 tons per hour (depending of the cleanliness of the product). The trap doors lay down behind the whitening cones of the waiting cells allow to adjust the flow of rice into the installation. The whole installation is controled by an electronic automaton wich centralize the informations on a synoptic in the control room.


DESCRIPTION OF THE DRIER

The installation comprises two identical driers. One superior underpass approach feed two culumns in witch rice go down gravitatly. During the descent, rice is exposed to a ventilation of dried air. At the bottom of the column, a screw of extraction to a moderate rotation speed allow to adjust the time of transit in the drier. Rice pass successively throught the two columns before going out from the drier. The enterity of the columns contains sheet metal in order to trap the pulsated air and to canalize it to a decompression chamber where dust is separeted.
Surrounding air, which is aspirated by two big ventilators, pass throught a gas oven to be heated and then is ejected into the drier. The flow of air is constant, the changing of temperature is obtained by adjusting the burner. The drier operator controls the temperatures and the flows into the drier in order to optimize the humidity rate of the product for a good preservation. Regularly, a sample is taken from the dryer and analysed by the laboratory.


DESCRIPTION OF STORAGE

The site of Tourtoulen is a storage area of about 15.000 tons of paddy rice. Every storage cells are equiped of thermometric probes. Undesirable insects for the preservation of the grain being not spontaneously present in the field, no specific treatment is achieved when the product come in after harvesting.
A forced ventilation by huge ventilator allow to reduce gradualy the temperature of the grain till obtaining a temperature below 10°C. This temperature and a moisture rate below 15% guarantee an excellent preservation of the product. Originaly, the storage bulding made of reinforced concrete had been built as wine cellar. Isolated from outside constraints by a double wall of ventilated concrete the building allow to keep rice at a low temperature even during summer.
